BroXT: Sons of Loki

A new challenge has been issued! We are to make a mid-level faction for Braunstein potential and intent on dropping it into a RealD&D campaign (Living Urf, Bloodfall). You can find the rules over on BDubs blog if you, too, want to give it a try!

I've been learning AD&D alongside the Bros in Bloodfall, a Norse-inspired game with your classic town + dungeon starting setup. I've had a lot of fun seeing how things shake out, and Brigadine is doing solid work. I even had the chance to wrestle a Dwarven Fighter for the right to sell a golden statue! Holmgang!

While the challenge suggests leaning on Appendix N for inspiration, and I do have some ideas I want to try on that front, I find myself more interested in the boots on the ground. I've already got the pieces lying about from previous challenges so why not use them?

The Sons of Loki

After their loss against the forces of Marquess Ourdenarde, the Wolves of Blood fled through the chaos of the Mighty Urf. Stragglers were run down and slain, their impotent rage adding to a darkening chorus, and others seemed to vanish in utter silence. A group of these Lost Ones rushed toward the safety of the forests as morning mists poured through the trees.

As dawn rose, the Lost Ones spotted a great stone fist rising up from unfamiliar hills. From the fist poured a thick mist, the very same that saved their lives, and from the mist flowed a man in strange dress. The man was Ulfric Fenskoll, servant of Fenrir and his father Loki. Ulfric brought with him an offer of vengeance, plunder, and flesh; an offer accepted with relish.

Leader: Ulfric Fenskoll (LE C5) wishes to free Fenrir from his chains so that he may return to his Father Loki and call forth Ragnarok. He has taken interest in the Stone Fist and the rumours spilling out from the nearby town of Bloodfall; specifically one concerning a golden statue of Loki. While capable of fighting, Ulfric prefers trickery and subterfuge; making ample use of spells such as Glyph of Warding, Animate Dead, and Cause Disease. He delights particularly in infecting prisoners until they "willingly" submit to lycanthropic infection.

[S 16|I 12| W 18| D 11| Cn 12| Ca 12] Chain +1, shield, horned wolf helm, flail, L. Dire Wolf mount

Ulfric leads an entourage with Frampt (M1), 4 werewolves, 2 Dire Wolves, and 20 Lumberjack Men-At-Arms.

Officers:

Frampt (M1): Frampt is a first level mage obssessed with lycanthropy. Being the only one in the camp that can wield a Wand of Fire, Ulfric offers him special priveleges and a personal escort from his entourage. [S 12|I 14| W 14| D 13| Cn 12| Ca 17] Wand of Fire, Spellbook: Comprehend Languages, Enlarge, Shield

Raul Bunyan (F3): Leader of the Lumberjacks, a group of woodsmen that double as spies for Ulfric. His countenance is a cheery one, though he wishes to become a wolfman himself. [S 12|I 12| W 13| D 14| Cn 14| Ca 14] Leather, woodsman's axe (battle axe), sling & bullets

Raul Bunyan leads 20 Lumberjacks (Men-At-Arms) equipped with leather, woodsman's axe (battle axe), sling & bullets.

First Fang Treshkin (Werewolf): Leader of the Rangers and alpha of the Lost Ones. Upon forming the pact with Fenrir, Treshkin was granted a weapon to break the will of his enemies. Human form: leather, handaxe, shortbow, arrows, Trident of Submission (disguised as a hunting spear)

Treshkin leads 3 Werewolves, 4 Dire Wolves ("hunting hounds"), and 10 Rangers (Men-At-Arms) with leather, handaxe, shortbow.

Stronghold:

The Sons of Loki base themselves out of an old fortified outpost with  curtain walls, palisade, and iron door. The walls have slits for bowmen. Within the outpost are 3 lodges, 2 small and 1 large, where the leaders and their entourage keep their spoils. Tents and makeshift homes litter the grounds, supported by stones of a previous age.

Goals: Build numbers and strength via lycanthropic conversion, obtain the statue of Loki within the Stone Fist, collect sacrifices to Fenrir, discover the means to break Fenrir's chains and bring about Ragnarok.
